About me
Design Philosophy
I'm a Senior Product Designer with a passion for solving complex workflow challenges. My design philosophy centers on a simple truth: when software is difficult to use, people create workarounds—and that's a failure of design. Throughout my career at Moody's Analytics, Case Commons, and McGraw Hill Education, I've focused on users who rely on digital platforms to do their jobs effectively. Whether they're financial analysts gathering critical market information, caseworkers helping families in need, or educators managing coursework for students.
My approach to understanding complex workflows starts with deep empathy. I believe in immersing myself in the user's domain through extensive research, stakeholder interviews, and contextual observation. As I often say, my goal is to "walk in their loafers" to truly understand their needs and pain points before proposing solutions.
Professional Impact
My work has consistently delivered measurable impact. At Moody's Analytics, I led the UX/UI design for an ESG portal that expanded our product offering to 7,000 covered entities and generated $5 million in new business. At Case Commons, I directed the UX design for their first native mobile app for Child Welfare, which positively impacted 17,000 caseworkers in Indiana by reducing data entry time by 20% per inspection and overall inspection time by 55%.
I thrive on transforming complex systems into intuitive experiences. By streamlining workflows and focusing on user needs, I've helped organizations reduce travel mileage by 40%, increase inspection capability by 20%, and even create unexpected benefits like reducing supervisors' report processing time by 33%.
Award-Winning Game Designer
Outside of my UX career, I'm an award-winning indie game designer for my game press Sweet Potato Press. My game "Companions' Tale" won Game of the Year 2020 at the Indie Groundbreaker Design Awards and received nominations for ENnies Best Product and Game of the Year 2019 and Most Innovative at the Indie IceBreaker 2020 awards. We also have a Wikipedia Entry for Companions’ Tale.
"Companions' Tale" is a collaborative storytelling game where players create a map and tell the story of a hero's journey together. The innovation lies in its unique approach—no player is the hero, extreme player autonomy is encouraged, and consensus is actually discouraged. Players draw companion cards for both role and face separately (the face is a blind draw!), reflecting the diversity of our world while telling high fantasy stories.
What I'm most proud of is how I applied UX methodology to game testing and development, bringing my professional expertise to my creative passion.
Community Leadership
For the past 6 years, I've served as board director, 3 of which as president of my 130-unit cooperative apartment building in Jackson Heights, NYC—one of the most diverse neighborhoods in the country. The building dates back to the 1930s and houses a vibrant, active community. I led our co-op through the challenging COVID period and have overseen several large-scale capital improvements and community-building initiatives.
This leadership experience has reinforced my belief in the importance of listening to diverse perspectives and finding solutions that work for a wide range of stakeholders—skills that directly translate to my design work.
Creative Pursuits
When I'm not designing or leading community initiatives, you'll find me:
Growing houseplants: I've cultivated a small indoor jungle that brings life and oxygen to my space
Experimenting with homemade ice cream: Creating unexpected flavor combinations that surprise and delight
Baking bread: Exploring the science and art of sourdough and other traditional baking methods
These creative outlets inform my design practice in surprising ways, teaching me patience, experimentation, and the value of both scientific precision and artistic intuition.
